Host the Perfect Cannabis Infused 420 Thanksgiving

November 19th, 2020

Food just tastes so much better after partaking in the green goddess, so it’s a no brainer that potheads have turned the most gluttonous day of the year into a stoner holiday. Cannabis enthusiasts have been smoking bud and eating edibles on Thanksgiving for generations, but now we made it official by giving it a name of its own, Danksgiving.

What is Danksgiving?

Danksgiving doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to eat marijuana-laced turkey then zone out on the couch for hours. The holiday is just meant to bring cannabis and the traditional holiday together, whether it be by consuming weed edibles or simply spending the day smoking your favorite marijuana strain and pigging out with family and friends. If you and your friends love ganja, a weed-infused Thanksgiving may be just what you’ve been missing. It doesn’t take a lot of extra legwork to turn your usual Friendsgiving gathering into a Danksgiving.

Planning the perfect 420 Thanksgiving

Marijuana-infused food may be the highlight of the holiday, but don’t forget to set the atmosphere with some 420 decorations. You don’t have to turn your dining room into a frat house, pot decorations can be extremely classy and tasteful. If you’re in a  cannabis legal state , florists may be able to score some cannabis leaves and make a beautiful arrangement. You can also reach out to your local cultivator for some leaves that you can use as a centerpiece or as garnishes for your dishes and drinks.

If you don’t want to rely on your pot cooking skills, try creating a joint and blunt rolling station complete with all the weed  rolling trays , rolling papers,  herb grinders , ashtrays, and other 420 smoking accessories you and your guests might need to get the festivities started. You can also ask each guest to bring an eight of their favorite cannabis strain to share, so everyone can have a variety to choose from.

Finally, don’t forget to think about how everyone will get to and from the party. No one should be driving under the influence, so be sure everyone has a rideshare at the end of the night or a designated driver. Some people may get too high and will have to crash at your place, so have a comfy spot ready just in case.

Danksgiving Tips

  • If you’re planning to cook an elevated Thanksgiving feast, make sure that you take the time to test out your recipes and weed concentrates prior to the big day.
  • Know the potency of your dishes so you know what a portion size is and you can tell your guests. It’s very common to think that the weed brownies you made had just 5mg of THC per serving, but they actually ended up being around 15mg. Test the recipe first!
  • Keep in mind that this is a day about eating (we’re not talking about half a gummy bear) so it’s always better to under do it than over do it, since those who don’t have strong enough effects can simply smoke to catch up.
  • It’s a good idea to make one or two items on the menu an edible (the gravy and a dessert for example) and prepare the rest of the food normally so guests can choose how much they want to partake.
  • Edibles take a really long time to kick in and guests should only have a second serving after two hours (trust us). Be sure to tell your guests who are unfamiliar with edibles and remind them that they won’t feel anything until at least 45 or 60 minutes, but it can sometimes take much longer to feel the effects, hence the two hour wait time.
  • As mentioned above, have a plan in place if someone partakes a little too much (it happens). The only thing you can do for someone who gets too high is to calm them down and let them sleep it off. It is not life threatening to be too high and they do not need to go to the emergency room (there’s no way for doctors to magically make them less high).

Danksgiving recipes

The key to great edibles and a fantastic infused meal is to perfect your concentrate recipe. The foundation of all edibles are extractions like cannaoil, cannabutter, cannasugar, cannamilk, or infused alcohol. Despite what you may have heard, making homemade edibles isn’t very difficult after you get the extract down, plus you can whip up a big batch and save it for later. Once you have an extract made, you can follow any recipe you want and simply swap out all or some of the ingredients for the infused version. Grandma’s turkey stuffing just got a whole lot better.

Best cannabutter recipe:

Cannabutter is the most versatile extract since you can use it in virtually any dish that calls for regular butter. The staple also lasts a very long time if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, so you can try out lots of different recipes. For more potent edibles, feel free to double the amount of dry herb in the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce ground cannabis flower
  • 2 cups (1 lb) salted butter

Directions

  1. Slowly melt the butter in a saucepan using low heat.
  2. Add the ground cannabis and simmer on low for at least 45 minutes (the longer the better). Be sure to stir continuously and never leave the butter unattended. It burns very, very quickly and you will have to start again.
  3. Remove the pan from the stove and strain out the large pieces of herb using a strainer or cheesecloth. Store the cannabutter in a glass jar with a lid. The butter can keep in the refrigerator for 30 days or in the freezer for up to six months.
