How To Handle Weed Hangovers

March 3rd, 2020

Have you ever woken up the morning after smoking too much and felt out of it and not yourself? There is likely a reason why, and it’s called a weed hangover. There are a variety of symptoms associated with a weed hangover , and although there are some scientific doubts surrounding the evidence of an actual weed hangover - we all know the feeling and it is real when it hits. Some common symptoms you might feel when experiencing a weed hangover are:

  • Dry mouth
  • Lethargy
  • Brain fog
  • Lapse in memory
  • Dehydration
  • Decreased alertness

  • These symptoms might be mistaken for what it feels like when you’re actually high, however, a standard high should last as long as one hour to four hours (unless you’re on  edibles ). Anything beyond this amount of time can be considered the effects of a weed hangover, and it is important to know the difference between the two so you can be proactive.

    What is a weed hangover?

Basically, a weed hangover is when you consume more marijuana than your tolerance allows and the effects of marijuana will linger much longer than normal. Smoking more than your usual amount or combined weed with other drugs or alcohol will most definitely contribute to a weed hangover too. Combining weed with other substances will most definitely heighten your high so it is essential that you are aware of your tolerance levels. We are a judgment-free zone here, but there is no need to lie to yourself and others by consuming more substances than you are comfortable with so go at your own pace.

How do I cure a weed hangover?

    WATER, WATER, WATER!

Similar to an alcohol hangover, drinking water is the most important. It will alleviate your dehydration, cottonmouth and that headache you probably have too. Make sure to drink water consistently throughout the day, and a tip for next time: if you are already hydrated prior to getting high, you won’t feel dehydrated later on.

    Drink caffeine

After drinking water, you should make yourself a cup of coffee or tea. For obvious reasons, caffeine will help you feel more alert and combat the grogginess. If coffee isn’t your thing, try some ginger tea! The ginger will help with any nausea or upset feelings your stomach might be feeling from the hangover.

    CBD

It is widely known that CBD can often counteract the effects of too much THC consumption. CBD can help bring you down from a high you no longer wish to have, so it is always a good idea to keep CBD on hand in the event you’ll need it. It is also a much better idea than smoking a bowl of marijuana, similar to the hair of the dog concept, except without the actual inebriating effects. Check out six ways to consume CBD to see which dosing method is best for you.

    Take a shower

Opening your airways through a hot, steamy shower is one of the best ways to start your day! Weed hangover or not, taking a shower when you wake up will have you feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead of you.

    Nutritious breakfast

This is a no-brainer, but if you’re eating well, you’re feeling well. When you have a weed hangover, you can either feel extremely hungry or not hungry at all. Remember to have a nutrient-rich breakfast, with healthy fats and proteins. Having a balanced meal can really have you feeling completely brand new! Try not to upset your stomach with a ton of greasy food - take it easy and stick to the basics.

Weed hangovers are part of the deal when consuming cannabis, as any side effect or symptom you’d risk having when using other substances. However, if you are experiencing weed hangovers regularly, you need to re-evaluate the marijuana you are smoking. Either you are consuming too much weed, or you are consuming the wrong type of weed. Sometimes, if you have a low tolerance for certain strains it can cause a weed hangover. For example, if you smoked too much indica and are not used to the heavy effects of indica strains - a hangover will ensue. It is important to know what strains of cannabis work best for you so you can control your high; this will help you enjoy it more too!
